Smells like a superfast flying turbo badass ninja movieDirector: Yoichi Sai Main Cast: Ken'ichi Matsuyama, Koyuki, Kaoru Kobayashi, Kôichi Satô, Hideaki Ito
The Lone Ninja is an action picture made by Manga the Japanese anime company, better known for its comics and cartoons - and it feels like it. Having a studio so adept at creating anime strips must have meant that the storyboard for this film was incredible - and ultimately that is both this films success and it's downfall. Many scenes are enormously imaginative but in trying to do too much are let down because the CGI just isn't up to it. In the end the excellent but not quite perfect CGI is a constant distraction that is only somewhat made up for by the fact that the whole thing is slightly surreal anyway. It is, after all, a Japanese ninja movie.

Smells like paranoid potheads
Director: Ben Wheatley
Main Cast: Robin Hill, Robert Hill, Julia Deakin, David Schaal, Kerry Peacock At first glance this film seems like a poor gritty Brit drama knock off with its grim British seaside during off season setting and shaky camera angles. With no prior knowledge that it is meant to be a comedy you would find yourself thinking something along the lines of “Oh, loach-leigh-arnold-esque without any of their redeeming features”. However, once you start to get inside the heads of the main characters and feel their various neuroses kicking in the blackest of laughter will start to escape you.
